Chats on OrbRPG
Everything on OrbRPG is arranged by talking: a seat in a game, a question to a guild, Thursday's plan with your own table. Your account is all you need for it, with no phone number and no email address given to a stranger.
Your chats in one list
Conversations with Game Masters and the room of every game you play sit in the same list. Run a guild, and its inbox is there too, beside your "Personal Chats", so guild business stays in front of the people who run it with you and out of your own conversations.
Who can write to you
Nobody out of nowhere. A chat begins from a game you want a seat in, a Game Master whose profile you opened, or a guild you asked about. There is no way to browse people on OrbRPG and start writing to them.
Knock on a guild's door and the guild answers, not one of its members: a representative speaks for the whole house.
Once you have a seat, your table usually gets a room of its own, with the Game Master and the players in it and nobody else. See Game Chat Rooms.
The game at the top
A chat keeps a topic, and that topic is a game. Its card sits at the top of the conversation as a link, so from the first message nobody has to describe which table this is.
A direct chat holds its topic loosely. Send a link to another game, and the card up there becomes that game instead, which helps when one Game Master runs three of them. A Game Chat Room keeps its game for good, because the room exists for that table and nothing else.
Every change leaves its own line in the conversation, so scrolling back a month still tells you which game a message belonged to.
Writing
Messages carry formatting, the same as a game description or a guild post (see Text Formatting), and a message you just sent can still be corrected. OrbRPG tells you about unread messages through the channel you chose in your notification settings, and counts them up instead of pinging you one by one: "You have 3 unread messages".
